From broken houses to broken hearts, our sense of HOME is being challenged at unprecedented levels.
However, this great challenge of our times can be a tremendous opportunity to create life anew!
Within 10 hours on 18th January 2003, 4 people had died and over 500 homes were destroyed when a ferocious fire storm impacted residential areas in Canberra, ACT AUSTRALIA.
My parents home was in one of the worst affected streets, directly across from a large pine tree plantation. With no warning or comprehension of what was about to happen we were forced to flee in a car. Within minutes both sides of the road were alight and we knew we would be lucky to get out alive - thankfully we did however, they lost their home and everything in it.
As a feng shui teacher and consultant I was already passionate about 'home' and what it meant to people. On this day it took on a whole new meaning and the idea to create 'Suddenly Homeless' arose from the ashes.
In researching 'homelessness' I discovered that Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Program defined it as:
'An inadequate experience of connectedness with family and or community,'
Since then I have been working on creating a model/process to foster community connections between people who ARE suddenly homeless with those who HAVE BEEN.
I believe this can greatly assist people to experience a sense of connectedness & 'home' even amidst great adversity - real people sharing their lessons learned and shining a light for one another's individual journeys home...
I am also writing a memoir using stories from my own journey (including recovering from PTSD) as a self help guide to cultivating one’s sense of home within themselves & the world.
The book will not only outline how to come home again after trauma and loss. It will also discuss how to consciously create a home for the soul - for those rebuilding their homes from scratch, as well as others just interested in the relationship between our dwellings and lives.
'We shape our dwellings, and afterwards our dwellings shape us' - by Winston Churchill
Lastly, I am cultivating an online community, a cyber 'home' and sacred space for all Suddenly Homeless survivors, supporters & soulful home seekers...feel free to come join us at the facebook page.
Thank-you for taking the time to pop by. Whatever has brought you here, may your inner home be a source of deep peace & comfort!
Bright Blessings,
